Motorola unveiled the Signature 27 on November 5, pitching its new flagship with a 2nm Snapdragon chip, 7,000mAh battery and 200MP telephoto camera.

At $1,599 in the US, the Signature 27 sits at the premium end of Motorola’s range; the company says it uses a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset and includes a 7,000mAh battery, while its telephoto camera has a 200MP sensor.

The new model follows the previous Signature, which used the non-Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Motorola describes the Signature 27 as a substantial step up from that device.

In Europe, the phone will cost €1,400, with prices rising to €1,800 in some regions. Sales will open on November 16 in Europe, the Middle East, Turkey and Africa.

The phone comes with LPDDR5X memory in 12GB or 16GB configurations, paired with UFS 4.1 storage in 256GB or 512GB capacities. It launches with Android 17, and Motorola’s promised seven years of operating-system updates.

The Signature 27 is also the first Moto phone to support GrapheneOS, a privacy-focused fork of Android.

A 6.8-inch curved Tandem OLED panel gives the phone a 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Motorola says it reaches 12,000 nits at peak brightness, describing it as the brightest smartphone display ever.

The company says its tandem design can make the panel up to 34% more efficient and increase its lifespan by up to 121%. Chris Hall, an Expert Reviews writer who tested the phone, said the screen’s brightness fell short of those claims during his test.

The battery is 35% larger than the one in the previous Signature. It supports 90W TurboPower wired charging and 50W wireless charging, Motorola says, reaching full charge in 80 minutes.

The phone is 8mm thick and weighs 227g, compared with 7mm and 186g for its predecessor. Hall said: "The Signature 27 isn’t a heavy phone for its size at 227g (the iPhone 18 Pro Max is 249g)".

The main camera uses a 50MP Sony Lytia L910 sensor, which Motorola describes as Sony’s first LOFIC sensor. The camera has an f/1.6 aperture, optical image stabilisation and a 1/1.28-inch sensor size.

On the back, the system pairs a 50MP ultra-wide camera with a 122-degree field of view and a 200MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilisation. Motorola also highlights an Event-based Vision Sensor designed to freeze fast-moving objects.

The telephoto supports AI-powered Super Zoom Pro up to 100x and records 8K video with Dolby Vision. DXOMARK gave the camera system 173 points, placing it second globally behind the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra and ahead of the iPhone 18 Pro.

DXOMARK also named it the best Android device it has tested for video capture.

Motorola says the chassis holds MIL-STD-810H and IP69K certifications, though another account lists IP68/IP69 protection. The ArcticMesh cooling system combines micro-diamond thermal gel with a vapour chamber 40% larger than the previous generation.

The phone was first announced in September, and Motorola provided hands-on time with it in Tromso, Norway. Its rear camera cluster has moved from the top-left corner to a raised platform spanning the top of the rear.

Peter, a GSMArena writer, said, “For a while there, it felt like Motorola had given up on flagships, at least the non-folding kind.” Chris Hall described the Motorola Signature 27 as marking a fresh start for Moto.

Motorola has introduced four Gemini-powered tools, including Create My Widget, which makes widgets, plus Rambler and Sign-to-Text features for Gboard and Gemini task automation. Create My Widget is due to be ready when the phone launches on 19 November, before it becomes publicly available on Pixel phones.

The Signature 27 offers Google’s Gemini AI features alongside Motorola’s Qira platform, and connects to compatible Lenovo PCs. Its audio is tuned by Bang & Olufsen, and it has Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 protection.

Specifications remain disputed across some accounts. One source lists 50W wired charging, while Motorola’s other reported specifications say 50W wireless charging; sources also give display sizes of 6.8 inches and 6.78 inches, and different water-resistance ratings.

Motorola and several accounts list the US price at $1,599, but another source says official US pricing wasn’t yet available.

India’s launch date and price haven’t been officially announced. South Korean launch timing, availability and pricing aren’t supplied.

Motorola’s own comparison with the previous Signature shows a larger battery and a heavier, thicker body. The Signature 27 has a 7,000mAh battery, compared with a battery that is 35% smaller in the previous model’s phone, while its dimensions increase from 7mm and 186g to 8mm and 227g.

The telephoto camera rises from 50MP on the previous model to 200MP on the Signature 27. The newer phone also uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, replacing the non-Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in the previous Signature.

Pre-orders begin in the US ahead of the 19 November launch. European pre-sales start on November 16.
