Control Resonant sold 1 million copies by 15 October, making it Remedy Entertainment’s fastest-selling game.
Remedy announced the result roughly three weeks after the game was released. It is the fastest sales milestone in the company’s 31-year history.
| Game | Sales milestone | Time after launch |
|---|---|---|
| Control Resonant | 1 million copies | Roughly three weeks |
| Alan Wake 2 | 1 million copies | About two months |
| Control | 2 million copies | 15 months |
Alan Wake 2 had held Remedy’s previous speed record. By the end of 2020, the original Control had sold 2 million copies, 15 months after launch, while Alan Wake 2 reached 1 million copies about two months after its 2023 release.
The new game is Remedy’s first self-published release of this scale. It arrived during a highly competitive period, alongside major industry releases and an unusually packed September schedule.
Control Resonant is Remedy's first self-published release of this scale, launched into one of the most competitive windows in years alongside the industry's biggest names
Control Resonant is available on Mac, PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Remedy has not said how sales are divided between digital and physical copies, or which platform generated the most sales.
Gaudechon called the result a “very strong start”. The milestone came early in his tenure after he took over as Remedy’s chief executive in February 2026. He had previously led a sports betting platform and recently faced concern from fans who feared his leadership could take the studio in a different direction.
We have always believed Control deserved an even bigger audience, and this launch shows what's possible: we see the game connecting with long-time fans while bringing a significant number of new players into the world of Control, which strengthens its long-term potential.
The company marked the sales figure on Twitter/X on 15 October by thanking players for playing, sharing and taking part in its community. Remedy communications director Thomas Puha also responded to the result by writing, “There we go. Strong start.”
Gaudechon said the launch appears to have attracted both returning players and newcomers. The game connected with long-time fans and brought a significant number of new players to the Control world.
Gaudechon said the studio would keep developing its two established franchises, Control and Alan Wake. “Our focus is to build on what makes them special, support them, and grow them even further. There is a lot more to come from these worlds.”
Sales record meets mixed reviews
The commercial result came despite differing evidence about how Control Resonant compares critically with the two earlier games. One assessment described it as the lowest-rated of the three titles, while another gave it eight out of 10.
Reviewer Michael Higham praised the game’s setting and characters but said its combat loses force over time and its story uses a more conventional structure.
Even when combat's sharp edge eventually dulls, Control Resonant is a great addition to the Remedyverse. While its story follows a more standard framework, its gravitational pull is in the inventive world built around it and the humanization that grounds the paranatural intrigue.
The game also faced piracy after its digital launch in September. Leakers cracked the title and distributed it illegally, while some fans urged players not to download pirated copies and to support Remedy instead.
Physical editions have only just been released. That means the 1 million figure was reached before those editions had fully arrived, although Remedy has not provided a breakdown that would show how much of the total came from each format.
A fast launch, but not yet a profit measure
Control Resonant joins several other recent million-selling releases, including The Blood of Dawnwalker, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Star Wars Zero Company and Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve.
Several games in that group reached the threshold faster. The Blood of Dawnwalker sold 1 million copies in three days, Wardogs reached it in one day, and Subnautica 2 sold twice that number in 12 hours.

The sales total does not establish whether Control Resonant has made money for Remedy. The company has not said how the launch has affected its bottom line, and the available figures cannot provide a like-for-like comparison between the original Control and its sequel.
Remedy said Alan Wake 2 took more than a year and 2 million copies sold before it began making money for the company, and Chairman Henri Österlund’s stated purpose for Gaudechon’s appointment was “to lead Remedy into a phase of profitable growth.”
That financial goal places the new sales record alongside unanswered questions about costs, revenue and the composition of the milestone. Remedy has not supplied the figures needed to determine whether the launch has improved its bottom line.
Gaudechon linked the result to the studio’s established creative approach. He said the game was “unmistakably Remedy” and reflected the bold ideas and distinctive style expected by its players.
A huge thank you goes to our players and to the team, who have made Control Resonant the incredible game that it is.
He also said Remedy would continue building its Control and Alan Wake franchises, adding that there was more to come from those worlds.
Remedy’s Q3 business review takes place on 3 November 2026.
